A Legacy Begins

Tim Woodcock arrived in Southern California in the late 1990s, bringing a coaching background from England and a mission to inspire joy and technical growth in young American players. In a youth soccer landscape dominated by rigid, results-driven models, Tim stood out for his vision: to build a club where fun, inclusivity, and real development came first.

When he took the reins of a struggling Irvine-based club, he didn’t just see a challenge, he saw an opportunity to create a community. Through grassroots outreach, school programs, and a hands-on approach, he grew the club from a handful of teams into a respected local force.

Evolution Through Vision

The club’s identity evolved with Tim’s vision. What began as Irvine Lasers became FC Blades, reflecting his English roots and a commitment to professionalism and unity. Under this name, the club introduced innovative programs, expanded youth opportunities, and earned a reputation for technical excellence and positive culture.

As the club grew, so did its partnerships. Collaborating with the nationally recognized Slammers, the club became Irvine Slammers, opening new competitive pathways while maintaining its community-first focus. Soon after, affiliation with LA Galaxy transformed the organization into LA Galaxy Orange County, a period of explosive growth that included over 90 teams and national recognition. Through it all, Tim ensured the club’s core values, development, enjoyment, and family remained at the heart of everything.

Global Connections, Local Heart

Seeking alignment with world-class training and player development, Tim led the club into a partnership with Liverpool FC International Academy, becoming Liverpool FC IA SoCal. This affiliation brought international prestige while reinforcing the club’s commitment to integrity, character, and excellence.

When the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for a clear local identity, Tim launched a new era: SoCal Reds FC. Inspired by Liverpool’s “Reds” and the club’s homegrown spirit, SoCal Reds combines global standards with a deep local connection.

The journey has not been without obstacles, balancing major affiliations, navigating rebrands, and retaining top talent were constant challenges. Through it all, Tim’s leadership, humility, and hands-on approach have inspired loyalty and admiration throughout the community. His unwavering focus on inclusivity, enjoyment, and player development has remained the club’s compass.

Today, SoCal Reds FC is the culmination of decades of evolution, perseverance, and purpose. From Irvine Lasers to SoCal Reds FC, each chapter has strengthened the club’s DNA. Built on the values of Ambition, Commitment, Dignity, and Unity, the club continues to grow, uniting communities, shaping character, and leaving a lasting legacy for players and families alike.
